Stumbled upon your site whilst searching for the Stag Owners' page.

It's a small world - I have lived in Banbury town for 2 years ; before that 10 in Cropredy. Hence I was staggered to see that Cropredy character HUD891S appearing in your gallery!!!

I saw the 2.5 estate in your photo at the 75 year bash at Gaydon on Sunday; I couldnt work out what the thingy in the grille was either; the car sports a lovely sounding Stag engine though - the bloke's done a lovely conversion.

My family have always been Triumph powered;my first car was a 1964 2000 mk1,which I sold in 1981 to buy a lovely mk2. I sold this shortly after moving to Banbury in 1995 as we have no garage.I currently own a V0lv@ estate....

Mum had a GT6 mk2,my brother had an 1850 dolly, sister-in-law has a Dolly 1300 that has just turned 200,000 miles on original running gear.

Dad has a 1972 Stag which has spent all its life in the town;supplied locally, its first owner was the wife of the owner of the Whatley Hall Hotel. We took it to Gaydon- its in bits tonite suffering with low oil pressure at idle.....

New oil pump should be here tomorrow from Rimmers.Hope that sorts it.(If not, sump off next!)

Dont get out too much, what with restoring the house and spending 'Quality time' with wife & two growing lads, but might try to make it out to the Crewe arms one night to give the Stag a blow out.

Regards,

Andrew Newman

It's great to hear of a family in Triumph - and especially ones that have kept going as long as that 1300 Dolly!

Just checking out your club. I was a founder of a Triumph Club in Chicago Illinois, USA in 1970. It still exists today and has over 120 active members. I have a 1964 red Sport 6 with white hood. The only one in the Club.

Since owning the car I have added a GT-6 highport engine with Stage I cam and SAH headers. Also redid the suspension to lower the car and replaced rear spring (so rear wheels don't tuck) with Spitire 1500. The car really runs well now and is unique to the US.

Hope to get over to the UK sometime and check out one of your meetings. Our club is ISOA can be reached at http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/buja/isoa.htm

For those who don't know, the "Sport Six" was the US market Vitesse, quite a rare car!

I was very pleased to see a site specific to the Banbury area as I am currently living in Banbury and on the verge of buying a Spitfire 1500, my first venture into the Triumph world.I was also a little bit disappointed on the other hand to learn of the potential demise of this service this year. I am hoping that meetings may still be able to be arranged for local Triumph owners despite this.

Rumours of BTC's demise are rather exaggerated. Meetings still go on, and as you can see the web site still exists. It is, however, being maintained remotely at the moment, so it's not as up to date as it could be....

A good place to start on looking at paint schemes is the contemporary sales brochures, many of which have been reprinted quite often in collated form. But the best way to judge is to go to a car show and see some in the flesh.

His subsequent term of ownership spaned 17 years. As you may have gathered, it runs a Rover engine, but then without the transplant, the car would not have survived. Recent work includes new exhaust, inclusive of manifolds, steering linkage and exchange rack. Living in Jersey, I am a bit cut off from other Triumph owners. I sold it in 1983 (No $$$ and two girls to feed ! Ha!) and bought it back in 1992. This year I have finished paying for those two grown girls college and have started the second restoration. It cost 200+ pounds in 1970 and I'll guess here in the US even with my doing most of the work it will be around 7000 pounds! It was in great nick when I sold it but the lad who had it did nothing with it for nine years. It had the same fluids in it as when I sold it to him. Well 2wingS outer and inner, 4 door skinS, both inner and outer sillS, various bits of welding and a complete respray and I am still a long way of finishing but there is light at the end of the tunnel.A question I ask myself is how many of these cars do you see now adays .But have I regreted it not a bit where dose the money go found a great place in Bacup Lancashire for parts.PREFORMANCE&CLASSIC CAR SPECIALISTS,E/MAIL simon@ss-prepartions.co.uk .

Well i did something a bit crazy and brought a dolomite for my first car! and being 17 i was wondering if its possible to fit a modern stereo into it? also could you also explain weather its tax free or not? (its a 1980 model) as i have been told different things about the tax on this car.

Thanks a million Josh

(Chadlington)

It is possible to fit a modern radio, but the hole in the console is probably too small and it ends up being quite a significant job.

As to the tax exemption - not even close. The cut-off date is January 1973. The contradictory things you've heard are probably from people who didn't pay attention to the details of the 1997 budget, when it was frozen. Prior to that it had been a rolling 25 years old.
